
History:Wuhan College originated from Wuhan College affiliated to Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, approved by the Ministry of Education of China in 2003. In 2012, the college was authorized to confer bachelor's degrees. In 2015, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it became an independent private undergraduate university. In 2023, Wuhan College successfully passed the Undergraduate Teaching Qualification Assessment conducted by the Ministry of Education.

Non-profit:The college is run by Wuhan Yidan Educational, Scientific and Cultural Development Co., Ltd. as a non-profit entity. The founder, Mr. CHEN Yidan, a principal co-founder of Tencent Holdings Limited, initiator of the Tencent Foundation, and founder of the Yidan Prize, has donated a total of 2 billion RMB since 2009 to establish Wuhan College without seeking any return, pioneering non-profit private philanthropic higher education in China. All tuition and other income are used for university development and student cultivation. In 2016, the Hubei Yidan University Education Development Foundation was established to continuously support the construction and development of the college, having donated a total of 208 million RMB to date. In addition to national scholarships and grants, the college offers its own scholarships annually, including those established through social donations such as the CHEN Yidan Scholarship and Teaching Award, Songhai Scholarship, Huazhi Scholarship, Tencent Scholarship, and Grant Thornton Scholarship. Since 2019, the total amount of scholarships and grants awarded has reached 127 million RMB.


Campus:Wuhan College is located at No. 333, Huangjiahu Avenue, Jiangxia District, Wuhan. It is surrounded by the lake on two sides, features a sailing education base, is adjacent to the Military World Games Village, and has direct access to Metro Line 8 at its East Gate. The campus planning and design were led by Prof. HE Jingtang, a Chinese Architectural Design Master and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The building complexes are organically integrated with the superior natural environment of Huangjiahu Lake, featuring open and diverse spatial layouts, a unique style, and grandeur. Donated and named buildings such as the Mr. and Mrs. Chen Yidan Library, Ma Huateng Academic Complex, Penguin Square, Confidants Academic Complex, Chenye Lab Complex, and Virtus Inspire Lab Complex highlight the institution's strong ties with social welfare initiatives.


Disciplines:Currently, Wuhan College consists of 8 schools and 1 division, namely the School of Accounting, School of Finance and Economics, School of Management, School of Information Engineering, School of Law, School of Arts and Media, School of Foreign Languages, School of Marxism, and the Division of Liberal Education. The college offers 38 undergraduate majors, covering 8 disciplinary fields. Majors in Economics, Management, and Law inherit the strengths of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, highlighting their advantage; Engineering (Information Technology) majors incorporate elements from Tencent, forming distinctive characteristics; majors in Literature, Art Studies, Education, and Science develop interactively and coordinately with the advantageous and distinctive majors. Since its independent establishment in 2015, the college has been approved to offer the first catalog-outside undergraduate program in China, Supply Chain Management, and one of the first undergraduate programs in Cross-border E-commerce in the country, as well as the first International Economic and Trade Rules program in Hubei Province. Among these, the Supply Chain Management program was approved as a pilot program for New Liberal Arts construction by the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education. The college has secured 3 national first-class undergraduate courses, 1 provincial strong and distinctive discipline (cluster), 8 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 23 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 2 provincial teaching teams, 7 provincial excellent grass-roots teaching organizations, and 2 provincial teaching achievement awards. It has been approved for 85 industry-university collaborative education projects by the Ministry of Education, 2 provincial "Jingchu Excellent Talents" collaborative education projects, 51 provincial education and teaching research and reform projects, and a provincial demonstration center for Course Ideology and Politics teaching and research.
Resources:The college has over 900 full-time and part-time teachers, building a high-quality faculty team with strong political commitment, excellent professional skills, and superb educational capabilities that meet the needs of cultivating application-oriented talents. Among the full-time faculty, 42% hold senior professional titles, 95.3% hold master's or doctoral degrees (including 19.6% holding doctoral degrees). The faculty includes 2 experts enjoying special allowance from the State Council, 2 national-level teaching masters, and 4 faculty members selected for provincial talent programs. Additionally, the college has appointed over 20 executives and leading experts from renowned domestic and international enterprises as "Professors of Practice". The college covers a total area of 1001.31 mu, with a building area of 393,600 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 104.5976 million RMB. The library holds 1.67 million volumes of paper books. The campus network has an export bandwidth of 24.5 Gbps. There are 87 on-campus experimental and training rooms and 177 off-campus internship and training bases.
Education:The total full-time equivalent student enrollment is 15,343, including 14,126 regular undergraduate students. The college implements the talent cultivation reform model of "One Core, Two Integrations, Eight Collaborations" for high-quality application-oriented professionals. It promotes collaboration between industry and education by cooperating with major companies like Tencent, Huawei, JD.com, Chinasoft International, and Dachu Network, and fosters innovation through interdisciplinary integration of disciplines and majors, enhancing students' professional and practical abilities. It cooperates with British professional associations to implement dual-certificate education, awarding both academic diplomas and professional qualification certificates. The college has partnered with Chinasoft International to establish the Internet Industry College, with Newtouch Technology to co-build the Digital Intelligence Finance Industry College, and with the Chinese Sailing Association to jointly establish the China Sailing Industry Talent Training Center, all dedicated to cultivating high-quality applied professionals. The teaching quality of specialized courses is highly recognized by professional associations, with the number of exempted professional qualification courses ranking among the top in similar specialized programs nationwide. The college has established 4 distinctive undergraduate program classes: Accounting (ACA Class), Financial Management (CIMA Class), Software Engineering (Tencent Class), and Network Engineering (Huawei Class). In 2016, it was approved to recruit students at the first-tier level (the only private university in Hubei Province with this status). It has added three new specialized classes: Financial Management (Digital Intelligence Finance Experimental Class), Software Engineering (Chinasoft Outstanding Engineer Class), and Social Sports Instruction and Management (Chinese Sailing Association Sailing Specialized Class). Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business hosts the Cheng Kong Free Public Lecture series for all teachers and students, regularly inviting renowned entrepreneurs, experts, and scholars to give lectures. The Tencent Maker Space settled on campus is accredited as a National Service Space for Innovators by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The college is certified as an Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base for College Students in Hubei Province by the Provincial Department of Education, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. Since 2022, students have won 2,993 national and provincial awards in various Category A and B disciplinary, arts, and sports competitions. It has secured 30 national-level and 90 provincial-level projects in the College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program.

Research:Since 2019, the college has obtained over 200 government-supported research projects at the provincial/ministerial level or above, including 1 project from the National Natural Science Foundation, 2 projects from the National Social Science Fund, 1 project from the National Arts Fund, and 4 projects from the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences Program. It has successfully completed 1 National Social Science Fund project. Key academic achievements include: publishing nearly 300 papers in core journals, authoring 55 academic monographs, obtaining over 100 national patents (including 25 invention patents), registering 75 software copyrights, and conducting over 600 horizontal research projects. The college has established 9 Hubei Provincial Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Scientific and Technological Innovation Teams in Universities, 1 Hubei Provincial Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences in Higher Education, received 3 Hubei Provincial Government Development Research Awards, 2 Outstanding Social Science Achievement Awards from the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee and Government, and received affirmative endorsements from provincial-level leaders for 13 research outcomes.
International:The college cooperates with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) to offer the Accounting ACA Class and with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) to offer the Financial Management CIMA Class. It has established cooperative relations with more than ten renowned universities worldwide, including the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Stellenbosch University (South Africa), Hong Kong Metropolitan University, and San Diego State University (USA). Since 2018, the college has fully funded 319 students for overseas exchange and over a thousand students for online courses from prestigious overseas universities. 356 students have pursued further studies abroad, with 80% of them entering universities ranked within the world's top 200. The college offers a series of international exchange programs with the University of Cambridge, such as the Cambridge Visiting Program, Global Competence Education Online Workshop, and Cambridge Academic Literacy Enhancement Course; summer course programs at the University of Oxford and LSE; a summer visiting program at Stellenbosch University; the Tencent Elite Class Exchange Program; and various faculty overseas training, exchange, and online TESOL training programs. The college also offers an International Direct Master's Program for students aiming to study abroad, collaborating with overseas prestigious universities like the University of Technology Sydney, University of Surrey, Coventry University, and University of Dundee for joint credit and degree programs. It provides channels and services for students aiming for prestigious universities in the UK, Australia, USA, Hong Kong SAR, and other regions, enhancing students' international competitiveness. The college is approved to provide degree programs to international students and has cumulatively enrolled and trained over a hundred students from 12 countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, such as Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Ethiopia.

Reputation:Since 2019, the college has received 220 million RMB in social donations. In recent years, the college's social influence and appeal to prospective students have grown significantly, with the quality of enrolled students continuously rising and achieving leapfrog growth. The minimum admission scores have increased substantially both inside and outside Hubei Province, with significant improvements in admission rankings. The initial employment rates for undergraduate graduates since the class of 2023 have been 89.47%, 89.50%, and 90.97% for three consecutive years, all higher than the average level in Hubei Province. According to third-party research reports, the overall satisfaction of graduates, parents, and employers with the college is above 90%. Over the past three years, mainstream media such as People's Daily, Guangming Daily, China Education Daily, and Changjiang Daily have published over 400 reports on the college's reform, development, and talent cultivation. In 2020, it ranked 6th nationally among private universities in the Shanghai Ranking. In 2021, it tied for 3rd place nationally among private universities in the Alumni Association Chinese University Rankings.
